Paper Farma vs Printable PDF Pattern: Which to Buy

Ready-cut paper farma or printable PDF pattern? Compare printing, taping, accuracy and fit for blouse and chudi patterns, and see how Size Hub posts its farma.

Paper Farma vs Printable PDF Pattern: Which to Buy

A printable PDF pattern means printing, taping and trimming at home. A ready-cut paper farma arrives in one piece. What actually differs.

Search for a blouse or chudi pattern online and you will meet two kinds: a printable PDF you download and print yourself, and a ready-cut paper farma posted to your door. They look like the same product. They are not, and the difference shows up at the cutting table.

What a printable PDF pattern asks of you

  • A printer. A full-size pattern is larger than an A4 sheet, so it is printed in tiles.
  • Taping. The tiles are trimmed and joined by hand. A tile that is a few millimetres off carries the error into the whole pattern.
  • Checking the scale. If the printer shrinks the page even slightly, every size comes out wrong.
  • Adding seam allowance, on many PDFs, before you can cut.

What a ready-cut paper farma gives you

A Size Hub farma is a physical paper pattern cut in our workshop in Coimbatore and posted anywhere in India. It arrives as one sheet per piece. The seam allowance is already outside the cut line, and the darts, notches and grain direction are printed on it. You place it on the fabric and cut.

Fit is the bigger difference

A PDF pattern is a fixed size - or a set of graded sizes - that somebody drafted in advance. A custom-fit blouse farma is drafted after you order, from the measurements you enter. That is the real reason to choose one: not the paper, but the fact that nothing is drafted until it knows your figures.

When a PDF is fine

If you already own a good printer, are comfortable assembling tiles, and want a standard size to practise on, a PDF is a reasonable choice. For a customer order where fit matters, or when you cut every day and cannot afford an evening of taping, the posted farma saves more time than it costs.

The sheet itself

Plain printer paper tears when pinned and creases when reused. Our standard sheet is 200 GSM, waterproof and non-tearable, so it can be pinned, folded and used again.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to print anything?

No. Nothing is downloaded or printed at your end.

Can I reuse the farma?

Yes. Because the sheet is non-tearable, you can trace or cut around it more than once.
