Using Ready-Cut Farma in a Tailoring Business

How tailoring units and boutiques use ready-cut paper farma and graded size sets to save drafting time and cut mistakes.

For a tailoring shop or a boutique, drafting every pattern by hand is the slowest part of the job. A ready-cut paper farma removes that step. This guide explains where ready-cut patterns fit into a tailoring business, and which kind to use for which customer.

Where the time goes

Drafting a blouse or a chudi from measurements takes time, and a drafting mistake is found only after the fabric is cut. A ready-cut farma is already drafted, with the seam allowance, darts and notches on it, so the work starts at the cutting table.

Two ways to use ready-cut patterns

  • Custom-fit farma for a particular customer. You enter that customer's measurements and we draft, cut and post the pattern. Use it when fit matters and the customer is standing in front of you.
  • Standard size sets for the whole shop. A set is one model cut in many sizes. You keep the sizes you cut most often and pick the nearest one for each customer.

Choosing a set

Sets come every 2 inch (30 to 52) or every 1 inch (29 to 48). A shop with a broad mix of customers can start with a 2-inch set; a shop whose customers often fall between sizes may prefer the finer 1-inch chart. The details are in our guide to the standard size chart farma, and the models and set prices are on the standard size sets page.

Keep a record

Write the customer's name, the size and the model on the pattern when you use it, and note the alterations you made. The next time that customer comes, you start from the corrected pattern, not from the standard one. Because the sheet is non-tearable, it lasts. See how to store and reuse a paper farma.

Be honest about what a standard size does

A graded size is an average, and a fitted blouse often needs altering from it. If you adjust on the paper anyway, a set saves time. If the customer wants it to fit without alterations, order a custom-fit farma. We explain why in standard farma vs custom-fit blouse patterns.
