What a normal chudi top is, why it is a good first chudi to stitch, and how to order the farma and cut it.
A normal chudi is the plain, everyday chudithar top: fitted at the shoulder and bust, straight through the body, with a simple neck and sleeve. It is the cut most tailors teach first, and a good place to start if you are new to chudi patterns.
What makes it normal
- A simple neckline with no heavy trim.
- A straight or gently shaped body, without a wide flare.
- Standard sleeves and side slits.
That simplicity is the reason it is easy to cut and to stitch, and why it suits daily wear.
How it compares with other tops
A fancier cut, such as an umbrella cut or a fish cut, adds flare or close shaping that needs more fabric and more precise measurements. See chudi top styles for how the common cuts differ.
Cutting it well
- Press the fabric and find the grain before you lay the pattern. See how to use a cutting farma.
- Lay all the pieces on the cloth before cutting any.
- Cut to the line; the seam allowance is already on the farma.
- Transfer notches and any darts before you lift the pattern.
The pant that goes with it
A plain top pairs with almost any pant. See the choices in churidar, salwar and patiala pant farma.
