How a gents shirt cutting farma is drafted from your chest and length, which shirt patterns we make, and how to order one.
A gents shirt cutting farma is the paper pattern a tailor uses to cut a shirt. A good shirt depends on getting the collar, the yoke and the sleeve to agree with the chest and the neck, so the pattern has to be drafted to the wearer. This guide explains how our gents shirt farma works.
Shirt patterns we make
- Full sleeve shirt
- Half sleeve shirt
- Normal shirt
See them all on the gents shirt cutting farma page.
What is drafted for you
Shirt patterns are drafted to the chest and length you enter, with the collar, cuff and yoke pieces cut to match. Our gents shirt drafting chart covers 29 sizes. If your measurements fall outside the chart, we call you instead of guessing a size we cannot cut.
What you receive
A physical paper pattern, cut in our workshop in Coimbatore and posted anywhere in India. The seam allowance is already outside the cut line, and the notches and grain direction are printed on the sheet.
How to order
- Choose the shirt style.
- Pay on the website; you receive an email with your order number and a measurement form.
- Enter the measurements. Take them over the clothes the shirt will be worn with.
- We check, draft, cut and post.
Tips for a better-fitting shirt
- Measure the neck snugly with one finger of room, because a tight collar is the most common complaint.
- Check the shoulder width carefully; it decides how the yoke sits.
- Cut with the grain, and match the checks or stripes before you cut the pocket and the front.
Our general cutting steps apply to a shirt too.
